Last week I was hiking around Rodeo Cove in Marin with some friends, and spotted the most incredible flower growing on the cliffside.
Remind you of anything?
For a moment I felt like I had discovered the place where the magical mushrooms from the super mario universe were grown. The resemblance is uncanny! And I am a nerd for noticing it.

When I got home I did some research, and it turns out this is known as eriogonum latifolium, or seaside buckwheat. I couldn't find any other photos with this dramatic coloring, however, so it seems this was a rare sighting!
